Valentines and Randomness
I'd like to start out today by sending a big thank you to Gina and Grace. I got you girls' Valentine's package when I got back from class today (Valentine's Day!) Perfect timing! I love my shoe pin, it's going to look fabulous with my black sweater I'm wearing today. I'm also pretty excited about the candy. 7-11 candy really just isn't the same. Oh and I'm hanging up my new picture as soon as I find some tape. So Thank You Thank You girls!
In more news, a congratulations to Nate and JayJay on their engagement!
And now a story about Industrial Automation. This class only has 7 students, 5 HongKongenese boys and Kelly and me- two white girls from the midwest. Our professor is this very enthusiastic young HK guy who finds differential equations and systems modeling to be crazy-fun. He knows us all by name and is pretty interactive for a mathy class.
We normally meet on Mondays and Thursdays, but Dr. Ng (my Supply Chain prof) is out of town now, so our thursday class got switched with his tuesday. Its a morning class, and people are notoriously late here, especially in the mornings. About 15 minutes into the lecture this guy who isn't in our class wanders it. As he starts to sit (apparently unphased by the fact that there are only 6 students present in a class that usually has about 60 and the presence of an unfamiliar instructor) my prof tells him that the usual class has been switched, this is industrial automation, but of course if you like that, you are welcome to stay. A bit of sarcasm on that last part.
The guy stayed. For an hour and a half. He took notes and a handout. He did examples. It was weird. And then a mere 10 minutes before the class ended he picked up his bag and walked out. The prof cracked up and made fun of him in Cantonese. I dont' know what he said, but I assume it was along the lines of "that kid is a freak. who does that?"
Oh and can I just brag? Who do you think dominated the LaPlace Unit Step Functions and Heaviside functions? The smart HKer boy? Nope, me. Cuz I'm awesome and LaPlace rocks my world.
On a whole other subject, I'm going to this place called The Fringe Club this afternoon with some internationals (led by Fritz) to buy memberships. I'm pretty psyched. This place has a few different venues, one is like an art exhibit, one has live music and the other I think is a theater. There are events there almost every night and often free for members. Thursday a bunch of us are going to see the Vagina Monologues there. An excellent Valentines tradition. If you've never seen it, you should. Immediately. Its amazing.
OK, more later- its VDay and there are free drinks at Carnegie's so I'm sure there will be stories to tell.

Hi!! send us a picture of you wearing your pin. happy valentine's day
Happy Valentines day! I have no idea what you actually dominated at but I'm sure that your father and I are proud of you.
meli says - LOVE the blog. Not a daily reader, but try to catch up on occasion. Today's good laugh was the skirt incident. Sorry about the sequins. I can relate to the flash. I'm sure your mother told you about flashing the entire mag mile while handing candy out to homeless people on halloween. Happy V day.
